Discover Bangkok
one stall at a time
Lanternfox curates small-group experiences rooted in Bang Rak's neighbourhood fabric — a morning at the fresh market, a walk through Talat Noi's shophouse lanes, a first session with your camera in golden-hour light. Real hosts, calm pace, no crowds.

A marketplace built on neighbourhood trust
Lanternfox started from a simple idea: some of the most worthwhile things to do in Bangkok aren't listed anywhere. They're in a home cook's recipe card, in the stories a Talat Noi resident tells about the lane behind her shophouse, in the composition tip a photographer shares on a quiet side-street at 6 am.
We work with a small, rotating roster of local hosts — people who know their craft and their corner of the city well. Groups stay small so conversations stay real. Every booking comes with a brief introduction to your host and a clear description of what to bring and where to meet.
Three ways to explore the city
Pick the experience that fits your morning — or book all three across a long weekend.
Market & Kitchen
Start at the market stalls, end at the table. A morning that moves at a conversational pace, guided by a home cook who grew up shopping in the neighbourhood.

Old-Town Walks
Charoen Krung, Talat Noi, and the lanes between. A local guide shares the architecture, the snack stops, and the history that doesn't appear in guidebooks.

Golden-Hour Photo
A half-day that covers the basics of light and framing, with practice time in the streets and a relaxed editing session at the end. Any camera works.

A few things we hold to across every booking.
Groups of eight or fewer
A smaller group means you can actually ask questions, adjust the pace, and finish the session feeling like you learned something instead of just watching.
Hosts with real roots here
Every host on Lanternfox has spent years in their field and their neighbourhood. The stories, shortcuts, and recommendations come from lived experience, not a script.
Clear, unhurried scheduling
Choose a date that suits you. Morning slots align with cooler air and market activity; afternoon options are available for photography. No pressure on timing.
Charoen Krung moves slowly — that's the point
The stretch between Bang Rak Pier and the old customs house has been absorbing traders, artists, and curious visitors for 160 years. Our walking tour goes at a pace that lets you notice the ceramic house numbers, the spirit-house shrines tucked into doorways, the smell from the roasting stall two alleys over.

The recipe starts before you reach the kitchen
The workshop opens at the market stall, where you choose the morning's produce with the host — a step most cooking classes skip entirely. Back in the kitchen, the session covers a short seasonal menu (two to three dishes) with plenty of time for questions. You eat what you make, then take a recipe card home.
Book the workshopHow we keep standards consistent
Each listing goes through a host review before it appears on Lanternfox. We visit in person, check the meeting point logistics, and confirm that group sizes stay within the stated limit.
Host review process
All hosts reviewed in person before listing opens.
Capped group sizes
No more than eight participants per session.
Clear session timing
Start time, end time, and meeting point confirmed at booking.
Responsive support
Questions answered within a few hours on weekdays.
Our approach to the city
Bangkok rewards slow attention. The lantern market metaphor shapes how we present experiences: one stall at a time, with room to linger and look before you decide.
Neighbourhood-first listings
Every experience on Lanternfox is rooted in a specific area of Bangkok — not a generic tourist zone. The host knows the neighbourhood; that's part of what you're booking.
No over-promising
Descriptions focus on what actually happens: where you go, what you do, what you take home. No superlatives, no vague language about transformation.
Good for the host, good for the visitor
Hosts set their own schedules and prices. We handle the logistics so they can focus on the experience itself.

What visitors say
"The market walk alone was worth the whole morning. Our host knew which vendors had the best lemongrass and why the Tuesday crowd is different from Friday. The tom kha we made afterwards was noticeably better than the version I'd been cooking at home."

Market & Kitchen · May 2025
"We did the old-town walk on our third day in Bangkok and suddenly the whole city made more sense. The guide took us down lanes that weren't on any map I had. Unhurried, informative, genuinely enjoyable. Four of us, no crowds."
Marco K.
Old-Town Walk · April 2025
"I came in knowing basically nothing about photography. By the time golden hour arrived I was actually getting shots I liked. The editing cheat sheet is still on my phone. The pace was calm — no rushing people through it just to get to the next group."
Anika T.
